Ceramics

My ceramic work explores the meeting of historical East Asian art and contemporary visual culture. Drawing on Chinese porcelain, Japanese prints and the traditions of the scholar's studio, I create playful reinterpretations of antique objects, combining traditional forms and decorative techniques with unexpected modern references.

Made in Jingdezhen, China, in collaboration with skilled ceramic artisans, the works range from brushpots and dishes to one-off sculptural objects and small editions. Each piece explores the possibilities of bringing historical art into the present.
